Brandee Younger

In our last issue we noted that the pioneering Detroit harpist Dorothy Ashby will be celebrated at Orchestra Hall on May 26 at Orchestra Hall by Brandee Younger from a much younger generation (please pardon the pun). The Blue LLama Jazz Club in Ann Arbor will feature Younger on the following day (May 27). Like her predecessors, Younger is a boundary-crashing musician who is comfortable in many musical settings. She has performed and recorded with Pharoah Sanders, Ravi Coltrane, and Charlie Haden to name only a few. In 2022 she received a Grammy for best instrumental composition and was the first black woman to reach that far.
