Hayden’s Detroit Heritage Packs Them In
BY LARS BJORN
The Kerrytown Concert House was filled to the rafters for Marion Hayden’s Detroit Legacy Ensemble on January 8. The audience was not disappointed: the music was original, swinging, and exuberant!
It was particularly gratifying to have a few unannounced guests: tenor sax and clarinet veteran Wendell Harrison and the ever creative and soulful Cassius Richmond on alto and flute. It was also a celebration of three great Detroit jazz composers: Kenn Cox, Donald Walden, and Roy Brooks.
Our thanks go out to Marion Hayden for keeping this music alive. The SEMJA/KCH series could not have started out better in the new year.
