Paul Keller Back in Town
One
of the people in the audience at the Bird of Paradise during Jeff Hamilton's
stay at the club was bassist Paul Keller. Keller and Hamilton
recently returned from a European tour with Diana Krall and her quartet
(also included Anthony Wilson on guitar). According to Keller they had
a great time and played in venues from giant tents to sports arenas
to concert halls to Roman amphitheaters. The smallest crowd was 1,000
people in Iceland and the largest was 15,000 at the Coliseum in Verona,
Italy. As befits the hottest act in jazz, Keller reports that their
accommodations and travel were first class.
You can hear Keller lead his big band on Monday nights at the Firefly
(8 p.m.), and his seven-piece ensemble on Wednesdays (8 p.m). He also
plays at times with Paul Klinger's Easy Street Jazz Band on Fridays
at 5 p.m. at the same location.
