Alma Smith (piano) was one of the performers at the Detroit Jazz History symposium at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit in late September.

Robert Griffin (trumpet) was one of the Chicago-based 8 Bold Souls band that performed at the 2001 Edgefest at Workbench Furniture.

Frank Morgan (saxophone) played the Bird of Paradise in September backed by Terry Lower, Randy Gelispie, and Ron Brooks.
