Around Town

TOP: The second A2 Jazz Fest was held on September 8–9 at the First Congregational Church and Live. Attendance was good at both locations and the music was first rate. Pictured here is Sean Dobbins' Quartet, featuring trumpeter Anthony Stanco, on Live’s stage.

RIGHT: Kirk Lightsey is a Detroit pianist celebrated around the world. He honored singer Joan Belgrave by accompanying her for her 60th birthday at Kerrytown Concert House on July 29. It was a joyous affair with swing and blues galore!

BELOW: Reedman Wendell Harrison was a participant in the Detroit Sound Conservancy’s celebration on August 26 of the Blue Bird Inn stage’s homecoming after being exhibited in Paris, France. The celebration included several musical acts, but Harrison was the only one who had actually played on the venerable stage when it was located on Tireman on Detroit’s West Side. The Sound Conservancy has spent many hours restoring the historic stage.
