Around Town

Organist Brian Charette made his debut at Kerrytown Concert House on October 16 in the “All About” series on Sunday afternoon usually occupied by Ellen Rowe. Rowe was one of Charette’s teachers and he would have made her proud. He displayed total command of his instrument and let us know a lot of its fascinating history. Accompanying him on drums was another former Rowe student, drummer Jordan Young. A great afternoon for lovers of organ combos.

In a “Warming Up the Edge” concert Chicago saxophonist Dave Rempis played Encore Records with bassist Al Wildeman and drummer Ryan Packard on October 14. The group has just released its first recording this year on Aerophonic Records and was impressive in their intensity, power and innovation.
