Ramona Collins Sings at Club Series
One of the area's supreme vocalists, Ramona Collins will grace the stage of the Kerrytown Concert House on Saturday, March 31, as part of the SEMJA / KCH Club Series. The event is also part of the Jazz Masters Series with the Tad Weed / Sean Dobbins trio, this time with Detroit's Marion Hayden on bass. Weed is an expert pianist behind vocalists, having worked with notables like Carmen McRae and Anita O'Day, and a number of Detroit vocalists. Ramona Collins resides in Toledo, but has not performed much in Ann Arbor in recent years. The closure of the Bird of Paradise and The Firefly Club has diminished the market for vocalists so it is a very special event for SEMJA to put on a club-like event at the Kerrytown Concert House. We will provide a cash bar with beer, wine, and soft drinks and there will be table seating up close to the KCH stage. The concert starts at 8:00 p.m., and you can make a reservation by calling 734-769-2999 or going to the KCH website. Kerrytown Concert House is located at 415 North Fourth Ave.
In April, SEMJA will go into high gear and sponsor two SEMJA /KCH Club events: Wendell Harrison 's Detroit Swing Ensemble on April 7, and our 25th Anniversary celebration with the Ron Brooks trio on April 21. Harrison's group features dual guitarists Niko Pittman and Vaughn Klugh.
