Johnny O'Neal Kicks Off King's Masters Series
SEMJA is a sponsor of a Jazz Masters Series at King's Keyboard House in Ann Arbor, which opens Sunday, February 24, at 3:00 p.m. with Johnny O'Neal as guest artist. O'Neal is a Detroit native who has played with Ray Brown, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and more recently had the honor of playing the part of Art Tatum in the movie Ray.
The new series will also feature a house band and a student group. The house band is the Dobbins-Krahnke-Weed trio, with pianist Tad Weed, bassist Kurt Krahnke, and drummer Sean Dobbins. Opening up the afternoon will be a high school student group, yet to be identified. There will also be a question-and-answer session with the O'Neal.
