Parkwood Records Sold to Jazzology
Parkwood
Records, one of the few local labels specializing in jazz, has
been sold. The buyer is New Orleans based George H. Buck, who oversees
a number of labels Jazzology,
Audiophile,
Progressive,
GHB and Solo
Art making up one of the largest traditional jazz catalogues
in the world.
Windsor, Ontario, guitarist/producer Hugh
Leal established Parkwood in 1983 with a recording of Doc Cheatham
and his New York Quartet. Cheatham also appears on a recent Jazzology
release of Parkwood material: Doc Cheatham: Live at the Windsor
Jazz Series 1981 (see review).
This recording features pianist Jim Dapogny, bassist Dan Jordan, and
drummer Pistol Allen.
The Parkwood catalogue includes twenty-one
recordings by many other national and local jazz greats: Sammy Price,
Art Hodes, Franz Jackson, J.C.Heard, Marcus Belgrave, Johnny O’Neal,
