New Vibraphonist Stefon Harris to Bird
BY LARS BJÖRNThe interesting new vibraphone player Stefon Harris visited the Bird of Paradise in Ann Arbor on April 6 with his quartet: Orrin Evans, piano; Tarus Mateen, bass; and Terrean "Tank" Gully, drums. Harris dominated the evening with his great technique, good sense of dynamics and sensitive playing. He has a distinctive personal approach to the vibes and is likely to become a major voice in the future. The quartet impressed me as four serious young musicians who listened very intently to each other.
