Detroit Jazz Festival 2011 Snapshots

Detroit Jazz Festival signThe 2011 Detroit Jazz Festival by all accounts was a musical success, even though it was challenged by Michigan's ever-changing weather. Opening night juxtaposed a focus on percussion in its varied forms with Jeff Tain Watts' Drum Club and a trio of vocalists who celebrated truth-telling. The vocalists were clearly the favor- ites with the large crowd at Campus Martius. Here are some snapshots of the marvelous variety of jazz artists heard at the festival.
