Greene Before Miles Ahead
SEMJA and WEMU want to thank everyone who attended the reception and fundraiser at the Necto Nightclub before the pre-screening of the movie Miles Ahead at the Michigan Theater on April 21.
Music was provided by trumpeter David Greene and his sextet. Greene did play Miles’ “All Blues,” but most of the program was from another trumpet giant: Louis Armstrong. Greene did not only delight the audience with his high-powered horn, but also his vocals and showmanship. Also featured were saxophonist Carl Cafagna (new to this band), trombonist Zack Land, keyboardist Alexis Lombre , bassist Ibrahim Jones, and drummer Butter Hawkins.
