The Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit presented former Detroiter Donald Washington in “A Sonic Decolonization of Mind” on November 16.

Washington is known in Detroit jazz circles as the founder of the Bird/Trane/Sco/ Now ensemble, which nurtured talents like saxophonists James Carter and Cassius Richmond. At the Wright,Washington brought together a number of Detroit’s best avant garde musicians, like saxophonists Skeeter Shelton and Anthony Holland. Pictured on stage are Shelton and Washington.
