Around Town

Ann Arbor violinist Maureen Choi visited her hometown on June 25 with her Spain-based quartet. Her husband Mario Carrillo is the group’s bassist, Daniel Garcia Diego the pianist and Borja Barrueta the drummer. Choi played a number of her own pieces and a couple of arrangements of Rimsky-Korsakov compositions (one renamed “Rimsky in Cuba”). She has nicely incorporated Spanish rhythm and melody into a lot of her playing so that the boundaries between jazz and classical become meaningless. A delightful evening of music.

Mr B (Mark Braun) has been a regular at the Ann Arbor Art Fair for close to forty years. Here he is in his tent on North U beating out the boogie with drummer Pete Siers on July 21.
