Michigan Jazz Festival Roundup

This year’s Michigan Jazz Festival at Schoolcraft College was very well attended and featured a great variety of artists from around Metro Detroit. Thanks to Bart Polot, John Trudell and the Board of Directors of the Jazz Festival for running a great festival! Some of the artists were captured by our roving photographers.

The DiPonio Room featured big bands all day. As usual John Trudell’s Big Band (top) provided the finale. Trudell is seen here in front with his horn.

Pat CronleyThe Rennolds Room featured a long line of pianists all day. One of them was Pat Cronley (left), who played the music of Michel LeGrand.

One of the younger talents showcased this year was vocalist Emma Aboukasm, who appeared with her quartet in Kehrl (below). It featured Scott Gwinnell on piano, Rocco Popielarski on bass, and David Zwolinski on drums.

Organist Dale Grisa’s “Soul Cycle” (below) was cooking in the Kehrl Auditorium: Matt Thibodeau on guitar, Grisa on organ, Tom Starr on drums, and Bobby Streng on tenor.
